History Mystery Hunt
April 13-June 15th
Join in on the Avon Lake Historical Society History Mystery Hunt, an interactive and family-friendly scavenger hunt, in partnership with the Avon Lake Public Library, coming to Avon Lake this spring, April 13th – June 15th, 2024, where all ages are invited to put their knowledge of Avon Lake to the test, as well as learn more about the history of Avon Lake through a series of clues.
Participants can pick up a History Mystery Hunt packet beginning Saturday, April 13th at the Avon Lake Public Library from 10am to 1pm to kick off the Hunt! If you can’t make it for the first day of packet pick up, visit the Avon Lake Historical Society website at avonlakehistoricalsociety.org to register and pay online. After that, you can pick up your packet at the Avon Lake Public Library.
Each Avon Lake History Mystery Hunt packet is $20 with all proceeds benefitting the Avon Lake Historical Society. *** Each History Mystery Hunt packet includes a copy of the book “Lake Shore Cemetery of Avon Lake” by Sherry Spenzer to help you decipher clues, and a form that includes a list of 12 clues leading participants to twelve historic locations or places of historical significance in Avon Lake. At each location, participants will find a marked box with a sticker “puzzle” piece to affix to the corresponding square on the back of the packet form. Once all 12 pieces are collected and assembled in the proper order, the pieces will reveal a special historical image The form should then be returned to the Avon Lake Public Library and deposited into the official History Mystery Hunt box located on the Library information table near the front of the south entrance.
Completed forms must be submitted no later than 5pm on Saturday, June 15th. All correctly completed entries will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win an exciting prize! Winners will be picked at random and contacted on June 17th.
Hunt destinations will be located outdoors and indoors, but all of the clues – and final mystery image - help to tell the unique story of Avon Lake. One entry per person. Families and groups may participate, but only one prize will be awarded if a qualifying group or family is drawn.
